Material Overview

HDPE is a very durable thermoplastic that is one of the most versatile and commonly used plastics in the country. It is a form of polyethylene known for its high strength-to-density ratio, which means it’s super strong without being heavy. It has high impact strength and is resistant to abrasions. HDPE is also an easy plastic to machine.

HDPE is very similar to UHMW in that both have high impact resistance, are used in the food & beverage industry, and hold up well against corrosive chemicals. However, HDPE is often the more economical choice when formability and cost efficiency are the primary factors.

HIGH IMPACT RESISTANCE - HDPE has very good impact resistance as well as scratch resistance. It’s great for applications that require durability, such as lining industrial chutes and truck beds.

EASY TO WORK WITH - Though tough, HDPE is easy to fabricate. Thanks to its high melting point, HDPE can withstand higher temperatures than many other thermoplastics. However, once it reaches its melting point, it is easy to form and mold.

CORROSION RESISTANCE - HDPE has good resistance to corrosive chemicals, has low water absorption, and is highly resistant to molding and mildewing. This makes it ideal for use in piping, fuel tanks, and bottles. Additionally, some grades have FDA approval and are used in the food industry.

  • High strength-to-density ratio
